In 2012, the Portland Rose Festival was awarded a total of 12 awards from the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA), including eight Gold Awards, three Silver Awards and three Bronze Awards, for the fantastic events put on by the Portland Rose Festival Committee. This year's theme, Portland's Party, suggests another great time, including the PGE/SOLVE Starlight Parade, Fleet Week, Dragon Boat Races and of course, the Grand Floral Parade. You can check out the full Rose Festival Events Calendar online for the complete list of celebration events and dates.
Here are just a few recent updates from the planning committee on this year’s events:
- Registration for “Portland’s Party Parade,” the 2013 Bank of the West Grand Floral Walk, is now open! Scheduled for the morning of June 8, walkers will step off just before the Grand Floral Parade, following the four-mile route from the Memorial Coliseum to downtown Portland. All participants are encouraged to wear costumes, sport flowers from your own garden or simply wear your favorite t-shirt to wave at the half million spectators on the route. Bring your friends, family and co-workers!
- The Dragon has been awakened! Last weekend, the Portland Rose Festival held the official “Awakening the Dragons” annual ceremony at RiverPlace Marina, where the eyes of the Dragon Boats were dotted in preparation for the Portland Rose Festival Dragon Boat Race, produced by the Portland-Kaohsiung Sister City Association. Starting this past Sunday, teams will each get three 1-hour practice sessions a week with the eight Taiwanese-style boats in preparation for the competition on the weekend of June 8-9 in three race divisions: Mixed, Women’s and High School.
- Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade tickets are now available online! The parade starts at 10 a.m. sharp and will be televised on Fox 12 from 6 a.m. to noon.
