A Weekend in McMinnville Wine Country

  • Date: May 21, 2015

At the heart of wine country is McMinnville. Located just half an hour northeast of Spirit Mountain, this small town is the perfect place to experience the best Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs in the northwest.

Third Street, also known as “Oregon’s favorite Main Street” runs through the center of McMinnville. Spend the day exploring antique stores, craft shops, and galleries in the historic downtown, and make sure to keep an eye out for the renowned public art peppered throughout the town.

After you’ve explored to your heart’s content, take a breather at one of the neighborhood’s renowned wine bars or cafes. Twelve wineries are nestled in the heart of McMinnville’s downtown, making it easy to stroll from one tasting to the next. On your way back to Spirit Mountain, stop at Yamhill Valley, Youngberg Hill, and Maysara Wineries, which are just south of McMinnville’s town limits.

Whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite or an upscale meal, McMinnville has the culinary answer. French, Spanish, Peruvian, Japanese, Thai, Italian, and Mexican cuisine are all packed into downtown. Bakeries and coffee shops will keep you well fed and caffeinated if you’re making a morning visit.

World-class grapes, historic architecture, and great food all converge to make McMinnville the perfect day trip. Book your room at the Lodge at Spirit Mountain and gear yourself up for a relaxing and delicious weekend.
