The World Series of Poker (WSOP) began in 1969 with inspiration from the great Benny Binion. This year, WSOP consists of 65 highly competitive events and spans from May 27th to July 14th. Winners earn the coveted WSOP gold bracelet encrusted with diamonds. This year, the $1,500 Millionaire Maker No Limit Hold'em event broke the world record as the largest one-day event when 4,722 players vied for the winning spot on Day 1A.
WSOP culminates with the No-limit Hold 'em World Championship, a high-stakes game where the winner walks away with a guaranteed $10 million. The finalists from this event will reconvene on November 10th for the November Nine, the biggest event in the entire tournament.
In an interview with ESPN, WSOP executive Ty Stewart explains why 2014 is the best year yet for poker, "For 10 years we have tried to raise the bar on tournament poker. There is real optimism 2014 can be our biggest year yet with an anticipated $200 million in prize money to be paid out this summer."
