The 90s: From Kentucky Family Band to Global Country Star
Country music has always been in John Michael Montgomery’s blood. The Kentucky native joined his family’s band when he was a teenager, and it wasn’t long before he picked up the reins as lead singer. A talent scout from Nashville got wind of this local talent from Danville, and a record deal with Atlantic Records followed. Life’s a Dance, Montgomery’s pioneering album, launched him into the world of global country music. Over the course of the decade, Montgomery:
- Released six studio albums, four of which were Platinum-certified and two of which were Gold-certified
- Treated fans to dozens of singles, including: "I Love the Way You Love Me," “I Swear,” “I Can Love You Like That,” “Ain’t Got Nothin’ On Us,” and “Love Working on You”
The 2000s: Crossover Hits and Mainstay Favorites
The millennium marked a period of musical experimentation for Montgomery. He released his first holiday album, Mr. Snowman, transcended into the pop scene with “Cool,” and founded his own label, Stringtown Records.
