This 1977 single paved the way for The Commodores as a crossover success. It peaked at #1 on the Billboard R&B Chart and scored the #4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. “Easy” was one of the first ballads written by former band member Lionel Richie - but it wouldn’t be the last.
“Three Times a Lady”
This 1977 hit was a happy accident. The taping system broke during a recording session. While the band waited for the fix, they started messing around - and the result was “Brick House.” William King brought the rough cut home for his wife, and she put lyrics to the instrumentals that very night.
“Too Hot ta Trot”
This 1977 R&B hit became a focal point on the soundtrack of Thank God It’s Friday. Since then, it’s been covered by musicians and entertainers across virtually every genre, including a memorable rendition by comedian Chris Rock.
The ultimate example of The Commodore’s dynamic talent, “Still” was the final single the band created before Lionel Richie went solo. It also peaked at the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Hot R&B charts in 1978.
There are dozens of hits from The Commodores to choose from, and we’d love to hear what songs you’re aching to hear live this April.
