What NOT to do in Blackjack

January 29, 2015

DON’T handle the chips incorrectly. If you place your chips outside the designated areas, you’ll either get a swift scolding from the dealer or unwittingly place a wager. While we’re on the subject, make that you don’t try to hand chips or cards directly to the dealer. This goes against policy--And it will instantly reveal you as a blackjack novice!

DON’T mismanage your cards. In most blackjack games, the cards are all dealt face-up. Because of this, it’s the dealer’s duty to handle them and you can’t touch them. If you are playing a blackjack game where the cards are dealt face-down, always keep the cards above the table’s surface and in plain sight.

DON’T mimic the dealer. You might think that copying the actions of the dealer will reward you down the road, but it’s a flawed concept. Remember, the dealer always goes last. So, if you get over 21, you automatically lose, even if the dealer has a poorer score. Since the dealer also has to stand on 17, you lose the ability to hit, split, or double down.

Once you have the knowledge of what to avoid, you’ll be able to play blackjack with confidence. And there’s plenty of it to be had at Spirit Mountain Casino. Take a seat at one of our eighteen tables and let your card shark skills shine.
