WINTER IN OREGON: OUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO

  • Date: December 22, 2015

One season, so many activities! We’re lucky to be located in a state that abounds with winter fun. Here are our top picks for must-do adventures in the months ahead:

See Mt. Bachelor by Dogsled
Experience one of Oregon’s most iconic mountains with a pack of huskies as your tour guide. Trail of Dreams takes visitors on hour-long jaunt through the winding, snowy trails on Mt. Bachelor’s south side. These friendly pups can carry adults and kids alike, making it a fun weekend adventure for the whole family.

Get in the Holiday Spirit with Zoolights
Every year, the Oregon Zoo dazzles visitors with their display of 1.5 million festive lights. Head to see Zoolights any day until Sunday, January 3rd.

Ski (or Snowboard!) Oregon
Ten unique ski areas are scattered across Oregon, each one providing plenty of fresh powder for winter activities. Get the scoop on the latest conditions and tackle a collective 400 ski runs, 71 ski lifts, and more than 16,000 acres of land ripe for outdoor adventure.

Go Whale Watching on the Coast
Every December, gray whales migrate along the Oregon coast. Join volunteers at whale watching sites through the Whale Watching Spoken Here program or make a day trip to whale watching hotspots like Lincoln City or Pacific City.

Cross-Country Ski Mt. Hood
Miles of snowy trails will take you through meadows and old growth forests. Rent a pair of Nordic skis at Mt. Hood Meadows and explore the area at your own pace. Afterward, settle in at the lodge with a big mug of hot chocolate.

Take A Brewery Tour
Home to more than 183 craft breweries, Oregon has solidified itself as the nation’s unofficial capital of the craft beer movement. Search breweries by region and spend a day out of the cold to sample stouts, pale ales, and more at these cozy haunts.

After you’ve explored the state by dogsled, scoured the coastline for whales, and enjoyed authentic Northwest brews, come back to The Lodge to relax and recap on your busy day. Centrally located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, Spirit Mountain Casino makes for the ideal home base for all of your winter adventures.
